Dear Prospective Volunteer:

It is with great pleasure that we extend to you an opportunity to serve as a volunteer at our annual Sea Turtle Challenge Kick-off. The Sea Turtle Challenge is a hands-on learning experience for teachers and students grades P-12. The participating feeder pattern schools work together to solve a real-life problem.  The students experience competition in the following areas: robotics, geographical information systems, web design, green, sculpture, and mural.  Additionally, students have an opportunity to demonstrate their leadership, presentation, and public speaking skills. Our organization is committed to closing the achievement gap affecting minority, At-risk, and underrepresented students in areas of communication, science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (CSTEM).

In volunteering, you will ensure that our community outreach will be just as impactful as years past. Donation of your time and resources assists our schools with providing opportunities that create endless possibilities for students to excel in areas of CSTEM.  The achievement gaps continue to widen among minority students and the drop-out rate continues to rise.  You can help make a difference by registering to volunteer.

Since 2002, having community support is what allows us to continue to do good works in schools.  As an organization we want you to know our commitment to CSTEM education grades P-12 is unwavering.  Registration for the annual Sea Turtle Challenge has increased in 2009 by 12 additional schools from 2008.  There are 63 schools throughout Houston, Fort Bend, Alief, Southwest Charter, and North Forest Independent School Districts participating.  Our feeder pattern approach with teaming schools horizontally and vertically allowed us to impact over 20,000 students and 400 teachers in 2008.   Our program demographics consist of over 85% Hispanic and Black students combined; and 46% female students.

It is our hope that we can count on you as a volunteer for the 2009 Sea Turtle Challenge Kick-off that will be held January 24, 2009 at Texas Southern University College of Science and Technology.  Attached you will find an area of interest for you to volunteer.  Please complete the volunteer registration form today by visiting our website at www.cstem.org

On behalf of CSTEM and the community of learners we serve, I thank you in advance for registering as volunteer for the 2009 Sea Turtle Challenge Kick-off.   We appreciate you taking the journey with us!

Sincerest Regards,
