C-STEM (Communication, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) supports the engagement of Pre-K through 12th grade students in hands-on, project-based learning experiences that expose them to workforce opportunities in related areas of C-STEM.

When we look to securing our energy future it is within the context of the world’s needs and resources. Jobs requiring STEM degrees are projected to increase four times as fast as the overall job growth. According to the Business-Higher Learning Forum (the nation’s oldest membership organization of Fortune 500 CEOs, prominent college and university professors and other leaders dedicated to advancing innovative education and workforce solutions and improving U.S. competitiveness), many of these job openings will not be led by United States citizens. Less than 40% of students intending to major in STEM fields upon entering college actually graduate with a degree in these fields. The STEM graduation rate for underrepresented minorities intending to major in STEM drops significantly to 25%.

The aforementioned data underscores the importance of energy to the quality of our lives and the untapped potential America faces. More energy means more jobs, higher incomes, and greater economic growth. There are significant employment opportunities for African Americans, Hispanics, women, and other underrepresented groups in the oil and natural gas industry. Employment opportunities for these groups that at this time, are extremely underutilized. It is with this understanding that C-STEM strives to i) inspire children to dream of opportunities in STEM, ii) help nurture those dreams, and iii) provide children with opportunities to achieve them. Infusing STEM programs into grades Pre-K through 12 curriculums provides a strong foundation for a child to be successful in life, both personally and professionally. Providing children with a strong STEM background comes with the added benefit of helping to secure a stronger energy industry for our world’s future.

C-STEM’s dedication to community improvement exemplifies the ultimate American Dream and promise: with hard work and dedication, a person can achieve his/her dreams.
