This Month's Highlights
C-STEM Alum Gives Back Globally
We are incredibly proud to share this update from C-STEM alum Abraham A-Kettor, who has taken his skills and knowledge and paid it forward on a larger level. He recently shared the following update:
It is estimated that more than 20 million children are without shoes in sub-Saharan Africa; this exposes them to numerous hazards, including a multitude of injuries and illnesses. Furthermore, a barefooted child can often have difficulty attending and participating in school.
To help address this problem, for the past nine days, I have worked with a local school in Liberia called St. Paul’s Academy (Daycare). Through close collaboration with the school, I was able to purchase appropriate school shoes for 100 students. Additionally, copybooks and pens were given to more than 100 students (half a dozen per student). It indeed was a blessing to help over 200 students! I am immensely grateful to be a part of this unique school project.
I want to thank the students and staff, especially Augustine Nugba (Brother Onana), at St. Paul’s Academy school for working with me to make this project a great success. A special THANKS to Hood College and committee members, Lisa Littlefield, of the Volpe Scholar Fund for providing funding for the project. It would not have been possible without your help.
Abraham is shining example of the C-STEM mission: identifying inequality and providing access to give students the best opportunity for success. Please join us in applauding him for his selflessness and proactiveness.
