How the Government Can Address Education Needs

It’s a new year, and even more importantly, a new administration has stepped in. Following drops across the board in enrollment in 2020 — from Kindergarten to college — it’s time to take a serious look at the opportunity to improve education for the future, especially in relation to STEM for economically disadvantaged students. Read the Full Article…

Executive Board Member Keeps Students, Parents Safe During COVID-19

C-STEM Executive Board member Kelly Coleman plays a crucial role in keeping others healthy and safe during the pandemic. A pediatrician since 2006, she is passionate about her profession.

Dr. Coleman serves patients at the Kelsey-Seybold Clinic at the Vintage in Houston. In her position as a healthcare worker, she is experiencing the devastation of the COVID-19 pandemic firsthand. Patients with cold symptoms are only being seen via video at her clinic. The clinic is conducting COVID-19 tests with a drive-thru, parking lot visits.

In Dr. Coleman’s capacity as a pediatrician who serves mothers and newborns, she’s grateful that none of the mothers have tested positive for the virus. That has indeed been a blessing, she said. Coleman recently had the opportunity to be among the early recipients of the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and is awaiting the second dose.

Dr. Coleman is a longtime C-STEM supporter. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Houston with honors and her medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) at Galveston. She’s a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority and the Missouri City Chapter of The Links, Inc. In addition to serving on the C-STEM Executive Board, Dr. Coleman donates her time on the Recipe for Success Advisory Board and the Children’s Museum of Houston Advisory Board.

We are honored to have Dr. Coleman on our Executive Board and look forward to her continued outstanding contributions to our efforts to support our students’ STEM learning.
