This Month's Highlights

National Security and STEM Go Hand in Hand

C-STEM President and CEO Dr. Reagan Flowers recently met with Houston FBI agents to discuss the crucial role STEM plays in the work of the FBI. On May 6, FBI Houston is holding a career event to learn more about the Special Agent career path. This is a great opportunity to meet with active agents and learn about what it takes to make it in the FBI.

Competition Prepared Sheldon ISD for Challenge Day

More than 100 students from grades 4-12 participated in Sheldon ISD’s first C-STEM competition on April 13. The event, held in preparation for the April 27 C-STEM Challenge Day, engaged students in areas of Innovation, Robotics, Mural, Sculpture, and Computer Programming. A total of 28 teams competed, with the support of 18 coaches/teachers from seven of the district’s 10 schools.

“It was a great day for the students to compete and show off their STEM skills to their parents and community members,” said Becky Zalesnik, Director of Innovative Programs, who organized the event with Annette Clark, Coordinator of Innovative Programs. “We owe special thanks to our awesome teachers that served as coaches for all of our C-STEM Teams.”

Huge Month for STEM

C-STEM welcomed hundreds of supporters and competitors at the April 24 Stakeholder Breakfast and the April 27 Challenge Day. The breakfast honored Ahmad Shaheed, Boardwalk Pipeline, and Renee Logans, Access Data Supply, Inc. In its biggest year yet, Challenge Day engaged hundreds of students in competition following countless hours of preparation. Watch next month’s newsletter for more highlights from these two events.
