Learning Beyond Limitations This Summer

As we head into summer, we invite you to look at how you can build upon digital learning with hands-on activities. The truth is that not every family has internet access. For families who have just one shared technology device, incorporating hands-on activities can provide the balance in continued learning throughout the summer months.  Read the Full Article…

This Month's Highlights

Help us Reach 30,000 Students with
At-Home Kits

With the rise of at-home learning due to COVID-19, C-STEM is helping with our ‘Anywhere C-STEM Toolkits’. We rapidly went from shipping a couple dozen in a month to more than 100 in one week.  A minimum donation of $25 covers the cost of a toolkit. Now, we are working to provide 30,000 toolkits to 30,000 students. Please help us by DONATING TODAY and SHARING the opportunity to help C-STEM with your Social and Business Network.

YOUR GIFT IS APPRECIATED
Every dollar makes a huge difference, no matter how large or small, in helping a student thrive with their STEM learning at home and not have their education negatively impacted by COVID-19. Every dollar is used to support the ‘Anywhere C-STEM Toolkit’ program.

Please HELP US help us Bridge learning gaps and help parents in communities across the country. DONATE NOWTHANK YOU! #cstem30Ktoolkits

C-STEM Welcomes New Intern

Please welcome the newest C-STEM intern, Jaylon Tasby. A biology major at Wiley College, he hopes to one day own and operate a youth health clinic and go into youth ministry. “With this internship, I really hope to focus on my skills when it comes to communication and organization, as this internship requires a stern hand in both,” he said.

Partner Spotlight

Sheldon Independent School District

This month, we are highlighting teachers and students from the Sheldon Independent School District. “Sheldon ISD STEM is ‘locked in on learning and having fun’, in spite of our circumstances with COVID-19,” said Rebecca Zalesnik, Director of Innovative Programs. “Our students love STEM and they miss the interaction with their friends and teachers, and their fun projects. Thanks to C-STEM At-Home Toolkits and our Zoom STEM Challenges–we are keeping our little innovators engaged, entertained and educated. We salute C-STEM partners, VerizonComerica, and Commissioner Adrian Garcia for providing our students and teachers this opportunity.”

Brayton Gray, 6th grader, Null Middle School

“I was totally surprised and excited to get the project in the mail. I never get mail and the Magic Milk experiment was really cool and something I had never done.”

Donovan Davis, 6th grader, Null Middle School

Donovan was all smiles as his mom took a picture of him in action with his C-STEM kit. “I liked it a lot and I liked when the q-tip made it seem like the dye exploded in the experiment,” he said.

Ms. Sherrell Wilson, Null Middle School Teacher of the Year, STEM Lab Teacher

Wilson spends countless hours on Zoom with Sheldon ISD STEM students, keeping them “locked in to learning” and having fun with both AVID lessons and activities, as well as bi-weekly STEM Challenge meetings. The entire STEM teacher team puts together challenges and then the students present their prototypes to the STEM team live. The top three prototypes voted on receive an award in the mail from the STEM teachers. One week’s challenge was the COVID-19 Mask Challenge–using household items, design and build a mask according to the criteria that could actually be worn for protection. There were some great prototypes presented with some really creative materials and designs involved.

Ms. Annette Clark, STEM Coordinator, Sheldon ISD

Clark loves Sheldon ISD so much that both of her own children are in the STEM Academy. From training teachers and designing PBL projects, to working closely with students on everything from the Engineer Design Process to developing their STEM skills to support their learning, she is an integral part of the growing Sheldon ISD STEM program. Her son, Jacob, and daughter, Maya, plan on graduating with STEM endorsements one day and pursuing STEM careers. They both have participated in C-STEM through robotics and working at the annual C-STEM Challenge Day event.
